Sylvester Weaver and Sara Martin – Longing For Daddy Blues
Dated 1923, said to be the first blues guitar recording. Weaver used a bottleneck guitar with a knife for a pick, very common in the early 1900s. He recorded about 50 songs from 1923 to 1927, then retired and went home to Louisville, and died almost forgotten in 1960 at the age of 62. The Kentuckiana Blues Society located his unmarked grave site in 1992 and gave him a headstone. That year, his Complete Recorded Works (vols 1 and 2) was released on Document Records.
