The Downtown tunnel is stalling once more, this time under the order of Gov. Jay Inslee. Why is this important? Every disruption and delay breathes more life into The Highway 99 Blues Club. The property owners are anticipating the demolition of the overpass and skyrocketing property values along with it. They plan to eventually build high rise condos where the club now sits. With the tunnel two years behind schedule, this is far off and a threatened eviction did not come. The owners and the club instead reached an agreement on a new two year lease in December. The club has even done some remodelling. I never liked the overpass. It’s dirty, noisy, and makes the waterfront inaccessible. But right now it’s a pretty sweet sight.
