There’s another ticket giveaway contest at KNKX, this time for The Otis Taylor Band. Otis calls his music “trance blues,” although he doesn’t use electronic components such as loops or drum machines. His 2017 album Fantasizing About Being Black is a serious dissertation on the African American experience, so expect to be provoked and enlightened, more so than “entertained.” He takes to the gritty chanting of the late John Lee Hooker, and the combination is enrapturing.
