Stephanie Anne Johnson debuted at Jazz Alley this week and I had to make a date to finally see her for the first time. They were (was?) warm and engaging and I want to see them again soon. Their voice is enticing as are their original songs: I was getting anxious for my second drink, when they started talking and singing about their recovery from alcoholism. I ended up sharing an Italian soda with my wife. Stephanie Anne dabbles across a wide range of music, but Americana, blues and soul are their staples. They did a very good cover of a Freddie King number about the rain. I didn’t get the title, but it must have been Same Old Blues. The backup band was excellent. I’ll update this as soon as I get their names.
4/14/24: The band members are
Jeff Fielder – guitar
Shaun Crawford – bass
Jake Sele – keys
Aaron O’Neil – drums
