It’s been one year since KPLU shed its university affiliation and became 100% listener supported as KNKX. What’s different, besides the funding base? It’s still the “jazz, blues, and NPR news” format, with talk of having even more “All Blues” nights. There are regular meetings with the community, updating people on the ‘state of the station,’ and taking input from community members. Funding has been pretty robust. People really value having a non-profit, community driven radio station, especially given the alternative of commercial radio, with annoying ads and programs scripted by producers. The blues doesn’t get much playtime, either.
