The Black Tones have released a new album, Diamond Ruby Night. It’s available exclusively on BandCamp right now for the nominal price of $5. Eva Walker asks you to donate more to support starving artists. I added $5. We’ll see where this experiment goes.
In Ruby Night, the band seems to have diverted from their Mississippi roots. It still has a sort of a bluesy tone, but it sounds more punk than that. Somebody else described it as 80s retro. You decide. Eva’s voice is riveting, and she has a flare for the guitar. Her twin brother, Cedric, is enticing on the drums.
Eva is busy. The band is a side gig. She has a radio program, writes a column, and raises a small child. I don’t know how she found the time to record this album, but it’s been seven years since the critically acclaimed Cobain & Cornbread was released, and this is worth the wait.
