Two to watch

Two women to catch on the local circuit are Michele D’Amour and Stacy Jones. Jones is multi-talented, playing guitar, harmonica and piano as well as vocals. Her band is very tight, with Kevin Sutton on guitar, Tom Jones on bass and Rick Bowen on drums. The Stacy Jones Band won the Washington Blues Society Best New Band award in 2009. Jones has twice been awarded Best Female Vocalist. In her 20s, she and the band already have three albums (a fourth is due in March) and appearances at SXSW and the Chicago Blues Festival. They’re playing local gigs now, and writing original music. They have yet to capture a national audience, but their songwriting could catch the attention of more prominent artists.

D’Amour has sung with several local bands over the years. She formed The Love Dealers in 2012, including drummer and vocalist Rick Bowen of the Stacy Jones Band. She delivers a deep voice with a lot of energy, and the band backs her up fluently. So far they’ve released one EP, Sin Comin’ On in 2014. I would expect more to come.
